As we are edging closer to the end of 2016 and also festive seasons, it's time to get sentimental. There weren't many important events in 2016 if compared to 2015, so instead of an annual summary, we recap all the way from 1998.

The Malaysia's eCommerce journey

As we are edging closer to the end of 2016 and also festive seasons, it's time to get sentimental. There weren't many important events in 2016 if compared to 2015, so instead of an annual summary, we recap all the way from 1998.

In fact, this is similar to our first ever article at eCommerceMILO, but here we update the important milestones of e-commerce developments especially from the year of 2013 to 2016.

In the infographic below, we include all milestones which play an important role in the e-commerce industry here, from e-marketplaces, online shopping sites, payment gateway, logistics, other service providers to government initiatives.

Feel free to leave a comment below if we missed out any important event.

Milestones from 1998 to 2009

There weren't many important milestones in the years before 2011, the notable ones are the launch of Lelong (rebranded from Buypc.com.my), AirAsia (with the turnaround by Tony Fernandes) and the start of online payment gateway companies.

We can safely summarize that 2011-2012 were the years of group buying, and e-marketplaces battle started to warm up from 2013. It is also notable that there are so many online shopping platforms launched in 2015 whereas 2016 was relatively quiet by comparison.
